Wellington_School_Evan_Richards_Cyclo_CrossWellington pupil, Evan Richards from Year 7, has competed against the top youth riders in the South West Cyclo-Cross challenge. Cyclo-Cross is the winter branch of road racing and takes place off the road, in parks, woods and fields, and is popular with road racing cyclists as their off season training although it can be fiercely competitive.

Evan’s commitment and hard work resulted in him achieving second place overall in the Under 12 category, just missing first place by two points!

Riders from all over the South West of England regularly competed in a gruelling series of races, from September to Christmas, battling mud, gale force winds, driving rain and a range of obstacles to test their endurance and bike handling skills.

This achievement sets Evan in good stead for a successful road season beginning in the Spring. In the meantime he continues to ride the track having been selected to train as part of Welsh Cycling’s Project 2018 Programme.
