Budding engineers from Wellington School won an engineering competition at the Flybe Training Academy at Exeter Airport last week at a Future Engineers Event organised by the University of Exeter, Flybe, The Royal Navy and Fleet Air Arm Museum.
A team of ten boys and girls from Year 9 visited the Training Academy as part of this event designed to encourage young people to consider a career in engineering.
The team were presented with a cup and a model Flybe plane after their landing gear, engineered from rolled up A4 paper, withstood 3kg more than the other competitors’ structures.
After an exciting trip round a Royal Navy Lynx Helicopter the group moved on to further exciting activities at the University of Exeter Engineering Department; examining the manufacturing process with the use of lego and to cap the day the chance to experience a flight simulator.
