Wellington_School_Rugby_Pink_socksWellington School’s burly Under 14s rugby team turned out in bright pink socks for their last game of the season on Saturday.  In doing so, they raised over £500 for the charity Cancer Research UK and had a fabulous fun game against a surprised opposition.

The idea was the brainchild of Joel Gibson (Year 9) who said “Cancer destroys lives, rugby brightens lives.  My hope is that one might help battle the other”.

Many of the squad have been touched by cancer this year, with grandparents and some parents facing the disease” commented Nigel Renyard – the team’s coach.  “The boys wanted to make a difference and do something positive to try and help.

The boys were sponsored to wear the socks and also received a commemorative photograph and programme.

We want to use our tackling skills against Cancer as well as the opposition” concludes Joel.
