A remarkable 25% of GCSE grades at Wellington School were awarded the top A* grade this year with almost a quarter of the pupils gaining 8 or more A*-A grades.

Last week, a third of Wellington pupils achieved the top A grade at AS level and two thirds of the pupils were awarded A–B.

Incoming Headmaster, Henry Price, commented, ‘I am delighted with the results overall and offer my congratulations to all the pupils. They should be proud not only of the results they have achieved, but the progress they have made and I look forward to seeing them go from strength to strength as they enter the Sixth Form.’

‘I would also like to thank the members of staff who have worked so hard to encourage the pupils throughout the year. With so many pupils achieving high grades, it is easy to focus on the headlines, but a great deal of care and expertise has been invested in the year group as a whole. The support, encouragement and occasional cajoling of the pupils have been expertly led by Mr Vyse, the Head of Upper School, and the results are the fruits of a great partnership between staff and pupils.’

Mr Price added, ‘It was particularly pleasing to see excellent results across a range of departments from Mathematics to Music and many more. As a Classicist, I couldn’t help noticing the fantastic grades in Latin and Greek and I will be feeling the pressure to maintain standards with my GCSE Greek set this year.’

‘With a full Sixth Form in September, and two extremely encouraging sets of academic results, I am joining Wellington at an exciting time.’
