It has been another good year of GCSE results at Wellington School with nearly a quarter of grades at A* and nearly half at A*-A.
In a time of national change and evolution of the GCSE examination, Wellington School continues to offer a challenging mixture of GCSE and IGCSE qualifications and has not therefore been affected by the introduction of the new 9-1 grading system this year.
Headmaster, Henry Price commented, “after our record results last year, I am pleased to see another strong performance from this year’s cohort. As ever, there are some outstanding pupils scoring numerous A* grades, but there are successes across the board and I would like to congratulate all the girls and boys on their efforts and thank all the staff and families who have supported them along the way.”
Star performers at Wellington include Alex Richardson-Jones with 10A*, Michelle Jacob and Morwenna Maunder with 9A*, and a dozen others scoring 5A* or more.
“As well as our habitual strengths in Mathematics, Latin, Greek and the Sciences, which have all recorded a minimum of 40% A* grades, the strength of the other departments is clear with some excellent performances in subjects from English Literature to German and Geography. In the latter, we saw 100% of entrants achieve A*-C, with a third at A* and almost two thirds A*-A.”
As ever, however, headline figures do not tell the whole story and some of the greatest achievements are amongst the B and C grades where pupils have pushed hard to attain really worthy grades, even when the going has not been easy for them; well done everyone.”
“I would also like to congratulate pupils on the outstanding contribution they have made to the life of the School in many areas including sport, music, drama, CCF and Outdoor Education.”
“Next year will see a greater embedding of the new grading system with Wellington pupils receiving a mixture of numbered and lettered grades. Although this will appear a little confusing to some, we are well-prepared at Wellington and will continue to offer the best and most rewarding courses for our pupils,” concluded Henry Price.
