Wellington School Christmas FairLast week saw the Wellington School annual quiz and Christmas Fair which were both a great success. The quiz, organised by former housemaster and Head of Lower School, David Joseph, and his wife Felicity, was attended by 200, including over 90 members of the Sixth Form in spectacular fancy dress. Held at the Alan Rogers Centre, students came as aristocrats, Baywatch, men of power, Toy Story, hippies, ancient Egyptians and the European Union as well as the Jamaican bobsleigh team from Cool Running!

Mr Joseph said: “This was the best quiz we have organised since my wife and I took over 18 years ago. The conduct of the students, and the effort they put in to their amazing display of costumes, their participation fully in the quiz itself and their exemplary behaviour made it a most enjoyable evening for everyone.”

Wellington School Christmas Fair QuizThe 14th Christmas Fair, now held at the Princess Royal Sports Complex boasted over 70 stallholders providing artisan bread, home made cakes, Christmas decorations, local wooden and woollen products, stained glass, a huge variety of jewellery, ceramics, an artist in residence, wildlife photography, textile bunting and doorstops, jams and chutneys.

School pupils sold cakes, ran raffles, washed cars, sang carols, and were elves in Santa’s Grotto!

“The fair continues to go from strength to strength, pulling in visitors from Wellington and the surrounding area. The majority are local craftspeople, some of whom have blossomed from an initial small stand to become regulars at all the local fairs”, commented organiser Linda Wyeth.

Both events were run by the Friends of Wellington School committee and were part of the school’s commitment to the community.
