Cicero WinnersThree Classics scholars from Wellington School performed outstandingly in a National Classics Competition. Sam Aird, Charlie Cooper and Sophie Bennett competed in UK section of the international Latin and Classics competition, CICERO.   This was held at Bristol Grammar School and representatives from schools throughout the South West took part.

The competition has several activities: a cultural test, a vocabulary test and an hour – long Latin translation.  The Wellington School team were commended for their team tasks and Sam Aird won the second prize for his Latin translation.

CICERO is an acronym for Certamen In Concordiam Europae Regionumque Orbis, and is a competition organised by teachers of Classics.  There are centres throughout the world, linking students through their love of Classics and aiming to promote harmony and understanding across the world. The Cultural Competition this year was on the site of Palmyra and its Queen Zenobia.
