The youngest of the famed Carson brothers is following the family footsteps towards England representation.

George Carson in Year 13 has been selected for the U18 boys’ West of England hockey team (known as the Wessex Leopards), to play in England Hockey’s Futures Cup at the end of half term.

The competition, with teams from the 4 English regions, play in a round robin tournament at Cannock Hockey Club in the hope of impressing the England U18 selectors.

George, who plays for Taunton Vale Men’s 1st XI at weekends, is looking forward to the two intensive training days in the next couple of weeks, in preparation for the trip to Cannock with the rest of the Wessex Leopards team.

His eldest brother Tom Carson is in the GB hockey squad and played for England in the World Cup last May as well as having appeared on Dragons Den with his “onesie” range Young Ones whilst his other brothers James and Ed have both played at national level. James, who plays for Cardiff Met Mens Hockey 1st X1 has been invited to train with the Wales U21 team after Christmas.

“We are particularly pleased for him as his 3 brothers were also fortunate to have represented the West in this national tournament in their age group when they were at school,” remarked his father Andrew Carson, who is a housemaster at Wellington School. “Although there is friendly rivalry between them, they are delighted that he has been selected.”
