Kester Griffiths is presented to HRH Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex

A Wellington School pupil had a Royal presentation following a fabulous fundraising programme.

Kester Griffiths, Year 11, has been part of the local parish sponsored bike ride team which has raised funds for The Devon Historic Churches Trust. This team has been so successful in their fundraising activities, raising over £12,000 over the years, that they were selected as “significant fundraisers” to attend an evening reception at Powderham Castle, attended by the Earl and Countess of Wessex.

“I have been cycling with our village team of Clyst St Lawrence for 6 years.  We generally cover 20-40 miles on each ride and get sponsorship from friends, families and others.  Our group were recently invited to a special event at Powderham Castle which supported the Devon Historic Churches Trust.  I had the honour of being presented H.R.H Prince Edward, the Earl of Wessex”.

The Earl and Countess of Wessex attended the reception to support the charity as part of Prince Edward’s 50th birthday celebrations.

“The Royals were very friendly and left in a helicopter at the end of the evening,” concluded Kester.
