Wellington School Lord Lieutenants Cadet Tom PilkingtonWellington School pupil Tom Pilkington has been appointed Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet in a ceremony at the Bishop’s Palace, Wells.  This prestigious award is given to six top cadets from all branches of the cadet world in Somerset, and Tom was presented the award by Anne Maw, Lord Lieutenant of Somerset.

Each year, the Lord-Lieutenant of Somerset, along with other counties up and down the country, appoints several young people to serve as Lord- Lieutenant’s Cadets.  They are drawn from the Sea Cadets, Army Cadets, the Air Training Corps, the Combined Cadet Force (CCF) and from the civil uniformed youth organisations across county.

Tom will be called on over the course of the coming year to assist the Lord-Lieutenant as required – often on parade for Royal visits – and act as ambassadors for their organisations and the young people of Somerset.  When on duty, Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadets wear a distinctive sash with the badge of their appointment to denote their role.

The Cadet are chosen on their merits within the cadet force and also for their dedication and work within the local community.

Wellington has provided Lord Lieutenant’s Cadets over previous years and Headmaster Henry Price commented, “I am absolutely delighted for Tom.  It is a great honour for him and a reflection of the highly regarded stature of our CCF. Tom contributes enormously not only to our Combined Cadet Force but also to many other areas of school life.”
