Wellington School Concert Violet Shaw Violin

An outstanding concert was held to raise money for the charity Brainwave.  Award holders at Wellington School performed a wide range of music from jazz to classical and instruments included piano, trombone, violin, oboe, trumpet and ‘cello and Simon Moody playing a very jazzy “Jambouree” on his euphonium!  There were some delightful vocal pieces including a sensational performance from Sweeney Todd by Charlie Pemberton. Freddie Davis bravely hobbled in off the rugby field with a fractured knee, sang beautifully, then vanished off to A&E!  An extraordinary performance of Beethoven’s “Pathetique” by Will Osborne amazed the audience as he played the whole piece without music.

“We have been raising money for Brainwave for a few years”, commented Andrew Trewhella, Director of Music at Wellington School. “It is a superb opportunity to showcase our award holders and demonstrate the amazing breadth of talent and ability we have within the school, whilst helping such a fabulous cause”.

“We are so glad to have the support of the musicians at Wellington School,” commented Paul Smith, SW community manager of Brainwave. “The pupils are enthusiastic and eager and this is reinforced by the additional concert which pupil Nathaniel Jenkins organised in the summer to raise money for the charity”.

The event raised over £500 for Brainwave, a charity which aims to improve children’s mobility, communication skills, and learning potential, through a range of educational and physical therapies.
