Two Sixth Formers from Wellington School have won a prestigious Physics award. Emma Holwill and Jakub Sujak won the EED Physics Award, which is presented by The Ogden Trust to the most promising physicists who demonstrate high levels of effort, participation, knowledge and interest.
The EED (Exeter & Devon Physics Partnership) was set up to raise the profile of The Ogden Trust and the teaching and involvement of Physics in the region. It includes Exeter Maths School, Uffculme and Colyton Grammar School.
“I am delighted that our pupils have won this coveted Award, after so much hard work and dedication,” remarked Andy Phillips, Head of Physics at Wellington School. “The level of Physics demonstrated by all the participants is incredible. Their thirst for knowledge, understanding and willingness to learn makes them a pleasure to teach, and reflects the School’s commitment to academic rigour”.
The Ogden Trust was set up in 1998 by Peter Ogden, who transferred £22.5 million of his own wealth into a new trust to help very able students. Since 2005, the Trust has focused on physics and has a Schools Science Partnership which co-ordinate activities designed to enhance the teaching and learning of physics. The prizes recognise especially gifted Year 10 and Sixth Form Physicists.
“We always have a strong cohort of pupils who study Physics and University and we are immensely grateful to the Ogden Trust for the opportunities they offer our students” concluded Andy Phillips.
