The team consisted of Isabel Elliott, Charlie Hodgkinson, Tom Hollingsworth, Philip Horler, Annabelle Jay and Matthew Lee, all of whom are part of the growing number of Wellington students engaging in such activities as this.

“The task was to create a gimballed runway that would allow planes to launch from a ship in heavy seas,” commented Tom Fasham, STEM Co-ordinator from Wellington School. “The team had to integrate electronic circuitry to show when it was safe to launch the plane, cost out the project and construct their design”.

“The final stage was to produce a presentation about their design and the students demonstrated excellent skills in communication, problem solving, creativity and presenting all the attributes that engineers have to develop.” concluded Tom Fasham.

Wellington School also sent a year 11 team consisting of Helena Brown, Kester Griffiths, Sarah Harwood, Oliver Hemming, Henry Savage and Henry Vyse, who finished in a very respectable fourth position out of 12 teams.
