pic 2Year 11 student Max Dunford from St David’s College in Llandudno has recently qualified for the Welsh Trail Running Team.  The team travel to Italy in June to compete in the European Junior Trail Running Championship.  Max earned his place in the Welsh Team by finishing 2nd at Welsh Trail Running Championships at the Red Kite Challenge at Devils Bridge near Aberystwyth, last week-end.  Holding off stiff competition from international competitors, Max kept working hard to keep with the leading group, and on the final hill climb, used his fell running strength to move himself into a position where he could launch a down-hill attack.  Out kicking his rivals and employing his descending skills to great effect he crossed the line to qualify to run for Wales.  Lois Lee was another strong performer finishing 5th, one off qualifying and with great prospects for the future.

GB international mountain runner and Head of Geography, at St David’s College, Mr Matthew Roberts said, “This was excellent running by Max and I’m sure he’ll enjoy representing the Welsh in Italy – only a week after I’ll be representing GB in the World Trail champs – also in Italy”.
