West Buckland School GCSE Results 2015Year 11 students at West Buckland School have delivered an excellent set of GCSE results which has seen nearly a quarter of all exam entries awarded the top A* grade. 53% of exams were awarded either A* or A grades, with 95% of all exams passed at A* to C grades.  97% of the year group achieved the all-important five or more passes at Grade C or higher.

Amongst the year group were some outstanding individual performances.  Mary Bradshaw recorded a remarkable nine A* grades and an A whilst Emma Cobby, David Davies, Sarah Prentice and Afnan Randhawa all secured eight A* grades and two A grades each.  Seven A*s and three As were awarded to Anna Dewhurst whilst John Dalton-Morgan, Jemma Elliot and Katie Hevingham each achieved six A* grades along with four As.  The Year 11s will now go on to study in the West Buckland Sixth Form with its new study, social and boarding facilities that open in September.

Headmaster John Vick says: “I am delighted for our Year 11s who have worked incredibly hard which has paid off in excellent results.   Over many years our pupils’ performance at GCSE has been consistently strong and this is the fifth time in seven years that over half of all exams have been awarded A* or A grades.  There have been some outstanding individual performances which are richly deserved and it is pleasing to see such good results from across the whole year group.   This will give the pupils a solid foundation as they move into the next stages of their education.

“Given that the school has a wide ability intake, our overall results are testament to the quality of teaching and care for our students, their hard work and application, and of course, the support from parents and families.  I am pleased for everyone connected with the school.  Well done to them all.”
