Westbourne School has won a host of national accolades, including being named one of the National Schools of the Year in the Sunday Times School Guide.

The publication lists the school as:

  • 3rd in the UK for A Level (equivalent) results
  • The International Baccalaureate School of the Year 2019
  • The Top performing school in Wales

Alastair McCall, Editor of Parent Power, the Sunday Times School Guide, said: “Its sixth form results last summer were beaten by just two schools in the England, Wales and Northern Ireland. A small cohort of 17 students achieved A*-B equivalent A-level grades of 97.9% in their Higher Level IB papers, the best results of any school offering only the IB in the sixth form.

Westbourne lives up to its school motto of academic excellence, providing an environment where children can thrive and succeed, while remaining small enough to ensure no child ever feels overlooked. It’s a great combination.”

Further to its success in the Sunday Times School Guide, 2018 has seen Westbourne achieve:

  • 1 Smaller School in the Daily Telegraph League Tables, published August 2018
  • The top grading of “excellent” in all five inspection categories in its Estyn Inspection Report, published June 2018.

Dr Gerard Griffiths, Principal of Westbourne School said of offering the IB and being awarded IB School of the Year: “The IB lends itself to the idea we like to promote in education in the UK of global citizenship, it encourages students to bring down barriers between different countries and makes them more appreciative of other cultures. I think if we are going to encourage our young children to be global citizens, this is the ideal programme.”
