Whitgift had a successful weekend at the Surrey County Fencing Union Youth Championships at the end of Whitgift fencing competition January, held at Epsom College, with double the number of medals since last year’s event.

The boys managed to achieve an impressive eight podium places. Vinith Elangovan and Ian Head, in particular, managed to win gold, in the U16 sabre and U18 foil, respectively.

The competition, with 180 fencers participating, is the first highlight of the season, an important test of how prepared contenders are, before the national competitions start.

Head of Fencing at Whitgift, Pavel Rynes, commented, “The Surrey championship showed what great progress we have made, in all three weapons, since last year. I expect to achieve good results, on the national level, in the second half of the School year.”
