On the 23 January 2014, the Department for Education published examination league tables for both GCSE and A Level examinations completed in the summer of 2013.

Windermere School is delighted that the outstanding efforts of both the students and staff at the school have been reflected in this year’s league tables.  Indeed, the benchmark figures published by the DfE of students achieving five or more GCSE A*-C grades, including the Mathematics and English, are the best the school has achieved in recent years.

Stewart King, Deputy Head Academic, said “Windermere is an academically non selective school and for 89% of students to achieve 5 or more A*-C passes, including Mathematics and English, is testimony to the students’ commitment to their studies. This is also due to the success of the school’s personal pathway pedagogy which enables every student to recognise and fulfill their individual potential.”

The DfE tables also report the success of Windermere’s Sixth Form students who left in the summer of 2013.  91% of the students, a proportion of whom took the IB examinations in their second language, English, achieved the equivalent of 3 or more good A Level passes.  With ever increasing global demand for places at the best universities, these league tables continue to reinforce Windermere School’s commitment to the International Baccalaureate as an examination system. The IB not only provides the academic rigor of A Level but provides a breadth and structure of curriculum well suited to fostering the independence of thought so greatly valued by Higher Education establishments.
