WINDERMERE SCHOOL 150TH ANNIVERSARY RECITAL – CLAIRE BOOTH (SOPRANO) AND RYAN WIGGLESWORTH (PIANO)

WE ARE HONOURED TO BE ABLE TO WELCOME ONE OF OUR FORMER STUDENTS, MS CLAIRE BOOTH, WHEN SHE RETURNS TO THE SCHOOL ON SUNDAY 19 MAY 2013 TO GIVE A RECITAL.

Claire was a finalist in the 2004 Kathleen Ferrier Competition and has been the recipient of numerous scholarships and awards on the way to establishing an international reputation as one of the most talented and versatile singers of her generation, both in opera and concert in repertoire ranging from the operas of Handel and Mozart to complex scores written in the 20th and 21st centuries.

Claire is currently performing with the Welsh National Opera and will be taking the role of Pakati in Wagner’s Dream in June at the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff and the Birmingham Hippodrome.

Ryan Wigglesworth who, although still only in his early thirties, has rapidly established himself as one of the foremost composer-conductors of his generation.

He was appointed Composer in Residence at English National Opera in 2012 and in Spring 2013 was named Cleveland Orchestra’s Daniel R Lewis Young Composer Fellow. The Orchestra gives the US premiere of his orchestral work, Sternenfall, in Spring 2014, conducted by Franz Welser-Möst.

The Recital will be the first public event to take place in Crampton Hall following its refurbishment, which was made possible by the donations received in response to our recent Appeal.

The Recital will include works by Debussy, Schumann, Mozart, Bach, Donizetti and Rossini There is also an opportunity for spectators to enjoy/observe a Masterclass at 2.30pm, when Miss Booth will be working with some of our own students.
