Windermere School is celebrating its best GCSE and IGCSE results for over a decade. The A* to C success of over 95% is the best the school has achieved since it went co-educational and non-selective in 2000, and significantly higher than the national average of 66.6%.
These results follow a record-breaking year for the school in which all of its Year 13 students passed the International Baccalaureate.
Despite being steadfastly non-selective, the school’s results have improved steadily over the last four years, very much bucking the national trend which has seen the biggest ever year-on-year decline this year, down to the lowest level since 2008.
At Windermere School, more than half of the students’ results were graded at A* or A, and, for the first time since 2000, there was a 100% pass rate in English and Mathematics. Special mention goes to the following students, who all live locally: Ella Handy (9A*, A); Daisy Southern (9A*, A); Nuala Murray (8A*, 2A); Maisie Bullock (8A*, A, B); and Matilda Salisbury (7A*, 3A).
The school offers a mixture of IGCSEs and GCSEs which suits the students well. Universities draw no distinction between the two examination types and Headmaster, Ian Lavender, feels that this mixture ensures that the school can continue to offer courses to the students which are best suited to their aspirations.
Mr Lavender went on to add: “This is a fantastic set of results for our Year 11’s and a very satisfying end to the academic year for the school. Combined with the success of our IB students earlier in the summer, this must be the best year we have ever had in terms of examination results. We are a non-selective school, so to achieve these results are a testament to the hard work of both the students and the staff. We wish all our Year 11’s onward success, as we welcome a new cohort of students into the year. We hope that they can continue the good work.”
