Windermere School has finished the academic year with another exceptional set of International Baccalaureate (IB) results.

In total, 35 students took the IB, 27 of whom took the IB Diploma, averaging 33.4 points. The mean world average in 2017 was 29.95 points. Just under half of the cohort obtained 34 points or more, with Kacper Micek scoring 43 points, Ella Handy and Daniel Heidland achieving 41 points and Tara Bryson attaining 40 points.

A further seven students have achieved impressive results in the IB Career-related programme.

Alissa Joy and Victoria Stanton achieved Distinction*/Distinction*in business and Katie Bryson achieved Distinction*/Distinction*in music. These scores are the equivalent of A* A* at A Level.

Harry Broomby and Jamie Dwan achieved Distinction/Distinction in business, while Joseph Baker and Thomas Whitehead mirrored this achievement in Sport (Outdoor Education).

A further two students took individual pathways: one completing a BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma with no IB component and the other gaining a BTEC Level 3 Diploma with individual IB subjects.

Almost three-quarters of the students achieved their university offers, with 53% securing their first choice university and a further 21% securing their second choice. All IBCP students successfully secured their first choice university, including Victoria Stanton who will be attending Glion University in Switzerland and Katie Bryson secured her place at the University of Surrey, Guildford School of Acting. Loughborough and Manchester are among some of the other choices, while Ashleigh Curwen secured a fully funded degree apprenticeship in Project Management at BAE Systems.

Headmaster, Ian Lavender, said: “There were some very happy students in school this morning following this wonderful set of results. I am especially pleased for the large number of students who have secured their university offers, and particularly for the success of those who took the International Baccalaureate Career-related programme, as these results have been outstanding. I would also like to mention the staff, who offer exceptional levels of support to the students. They should feel very proud.”
