At the end of the group discussion, members of the audience were selected and placed into two teams – the traditional red and green, each having fifteen minutes to create a balanced meal.

The College’s Main Hall was set up in typical ‘Ready, Steady, Cook’ fashion with red and green flip voting cards on each seat, two separate red and green work stations for each team and a central island where the teams were given their ingredients. Above each workstation there were mirrors so that every member of the audience could see.

There were three students and one ‘celebrity’ member of staff on each team. Miss Lisa Gomez was in the red team and Mr Peter Scott in the green team. From the moment we shouted, ‘On your marks, get set, cook,’ to the ten second count down at the end of the fifteen minutes, the audience was really buzzing and the excitement was infectious.

With the ingredients given, the red team who were to be the winners of the night cooked a turkey stir fry with cinnamon infused rice and citrus glazed vegetables.

Despite their food being described as ‘incredible,’ the greens closely missed out by audience vote. Their dish of steamed salmon, ‘champ’ mash and stir fried vegetables, narrowly missed out with the judgement of thirteen audience members acting as food critics.

The atmosphere of the evening was fantastic with everyone showing huge spirit and a sense of community, as well as a keen desire to understand how to create a balanced meal.
