A Generation Inspired

Wycliffe students sat rapt in awe this week as one of their teachers told of her work as an Olympics Gamesmaker this summer.

Wearing her official uniform, Head of Spanish Lisa Gomez related tales of working as a translator for the world’s top basketball stars. She was courtside at the Olympic Park, worked in Press Conferences and greeted VIP visitors such as Michelle Obama, David Cameron and Dame Kelly Holmes during her 110-hour, two week stint at London 2012. Even on her days off, Lisa went back to watch the incredible sporting action unfold.

Head pupil Harry Ryder said, “It was awe-inspiring to hear Miss Gomez describe that incredible summer. The whole school sat in silence and now many of the students are aspiring to take part in such an event in the future. She has really inspired this generation!”

After telling the pupils of her exploits, Miss Gomez treated them to a presentation of her own pictures and videos taken from her unique angle of the summer’s spectacular.

Now Lisa is setting off to inspire generations around the district with her talk, speaking to local primary schools and social groups About her experiences.

Also fluent in Portuguese, Lisa hopes to join the volunteers for the Rio games in 2016, showing just how far a good languages education can take you.

Lisa’s report can be seen in full on Wycliffe’s website.
