Wycliffe’s sparkling summer has continued today with the publication of GCSE results. No fewer than sixteen students at the non-selective Stonehouse school achieved seven or more A and A*s. The overall pass rate of 100% included a record-breaking 38% at A* and A.

Among top performers were Fergus Menendez from King’s Stanley with 11A*s and an A grade, Jasmine Handford of Oxfordshire with 9 A*s and 2 As and Joe Dunne of Frampton-on-Severn with 9A*s and an A. Each was also awarded an A grade in the Maths Advanced Foundation qualification.

Also scoring exceptionally highly were Ben Capehorn from Hawkesbury Upton who racked up 8 A*s and 4 As plus an A in Maths Advanced Foundation, Catherine Woods of Brimscombe with 8 A*s and 3 As, and Krys Fishwisk from Suffolk and Rory Gordon of Horsley, each with six A*s and five As.

Wycliffe’s grade-boosting reputation is intact once more in light of likely ‘value-added’ scores, which compare results with predictions. Over 86% of grades were at A*-C, an incredible 25% higher than predictions for the year group.

Head Margie Burnet Ward said, “These results are spectacular. This is a full vindication of our commitment to provide an outstanding education for pupils of all abilities. When we won the NACE award for excellence in Gifted and Talented education we were setting out our stall and this year’s results have shown how we can secure outstanding results for the very top of academic ability as well as supporting those with more modest abilities.

“Once again, added value seems sure to be high with grades boosted across the board by Wycliffe and we warmly congratulate all our pupils on their extraordinary achievements.”
