Head, Mr Adrian Palmer, put on a hard hat and took to a digger’s driving seat to mark the beginning of a £3million Learning Centre development at Wycliffe Prep, the 3 to 13 school in Stonehouse, near Stroud.

Work began on the state-of-the-art Learning Centre for Year 7 and Year 8 pupils with a ground breaking event on Monday 22 July.

Wycliffe Prep, diggers begin new building Mr Palmer and Mrs Palmer, visited the site and met Mr Paul Morgan, Site Manager of EG Carter, the local company which will be building the impressive new complex.

The stunning, university-style, centre will feature eight spacious classes, a well-equipped common room and three staff offices.

High tech teaching resources for pupils will include 64-inch touchscreen boards, iPads, and revolutionary new Apple iDesks.

The construction of the two-storey building will follow the latest environmental and construction standards. While the innovative design will allow for plenty of natural light, ventilation, with a focus on natural building materials.

Mrs Gillian Camm, Chair of Governors at Wycliffe, announced the new development to thrilled parents, pupils and staff at the school’s Speech Day on Saturday 6th July.

She said: “The Prep School is flourishing with happy children who are stretched, challenged and achieve beyond their expectations. This new development is part of our vision to build on our successes, continue inspiring our pupils and lead the way in the region for teaching and learning.”

The completed Learning Centre will be unveiled in late August 2014 – ready for staff and pupils to move in at the beginning of the 2014 autumn term.

Mr Palmer added: ‘We look forward to seeing this exciting new phase in Wycliffe Prep’s development take shape over the next 12 months. The pupils will have an outstanding place to work, learn and enjoy during the crucial years of their prep school education.”
