Dozens of pupils from primary schools across the region descended on Pocklington School for a musical experience Pocklington Schoolday.

75 youngsters took part in the Primary Schools’ Musical Activity Day, held at the school’s Tom Stoppard Theatre.

Led by Cathie Dance and Martin Kettlewell, the pupils were given four hours of vocal workshops, which developed their technique. In addition, they learnt Michael Hurd’s pop cantata ‘Jonah Man Jazz’.

They then put their singing skills to the test by performing a concert to parents.

Mr Kattlewell, head of Music at the school, said: “Pupils responded enthusiastically to the workshops, and engaged in all aspects of the day.

“The resulting concert, given to over 100 appreciative parents, was a joy to hear, with pupils memorizing the words for the cantata, singing enthusiastically with appropriate actions and dance moves!

“The whole event was a huge success and the children went home tired yet uplifted from a day of hard work.”
