About the School

Founded in 1779, Ackworth School is the UK’s oldest co-educational
boarding and day school. For over 240 years, we have maintained a passion
for teaching and learning. We are proud of our traditions and family values,
but equally proud of our innovative approach to co-education.
A dynamic and forward-thinking school, we strive to develop resilient
individuals who not only think creatively, but also act ethically and
responsibly. We encourage our students to express themselves with
confidence, to embody the Quaker value of speaking respectfully to
others, but also in a way that is true to themselves and their beliefs.
Located in a beautiful rural setting in Yorkshire, we offer broad educational
opportunities from Nursery age to Sixth Form, for day pupils and boarders.

Our aims
The School embraces the Quaker ethos of looking for the good in people,
encouraging the individual and providing a friendly, supportive
environment. First-class teaching, a broad curriculum and superb facilities
provide the foundations for a stimulating learning environment. We aim
to help all pupils to progress at a pace appropriate to their age, aptitude,
interests and ability, to achieve the best external examination results of
which they are capable, and to leave school equipped to lead a full and
responsible life in the adult world.

Sporting excellence
Ackworth prides itself on the wide range of sports accessible to the
students in both Junior and Senior School. Sports and physical and mental
well-being are very important to today’s students providing them with a
positive foundation for their academic work. Sport can expose a student to
self-discipline, practice and preparation, teamwork, goal setting, success
and failure, and resilience.

Ackworth School offers elite sporting development through our Football
Academy, Squash Academy and Table Tennis Academy.
