School Information

Bedstone College is a traditional British boarding school for boys and girls,
aged 8-18 years. Bedstone is also an independent day school for local
students, aged 4-18 years. Bedstone is not an academically selective school,
but chooses to focus on bringing out the very best in each and every child.
With strong pastoral care and small class sizes, students exceed expectations
in the classroom and beyond. Bedstone has a very strong sporting
programme, and extracurricular life. All pupils will discover new talents and
pursuits, and are kept challenged, healthy and happy. With low numbers of
international pupils, students are truly immersed in British culture and the
English language. With no exeat weekends, our engaging weekend activities
are perfect for both international boarders and local students. Far from the
distractions of city life, Bedstone is set in an area of outstanding natural
beauty, in the beautiful, rolling countryside of south Shropshire in England.
Despite the idyllic rural setting, we are only 1½ hours from Birmingham
airport, 2 hours from Manchester, and 3 hours from London Heathrow.

Pastoral Care
Bedstone enjoys an outstanding reputation for its pastoral care. The whole
College community is seen as an extended family and all relationships are
modelled on that. All boarding students have house parents in addition to
support from teaching staff. Bedstone enjoys a renowned learning support
department whose Head of Learning Support was voted ‘SENCO of the year
2018’ at the Dyslexia Awards. The College also enjoys a very successful EAL
department for those who are seeking to improve their English language skills.

Academic life
Academic life is at the heart of every school and Bedstone offers a wide
selection of GCSE, AS and A-level courses. 83% of students will go on to
their first choice university. The teaching offered at Bedstone College is of
the very highest academic standard and it supports our students to fulfil
their potential, whatever that may be. We have an additional support
programme in place for Oxford & Cambridge University applicants.

Activities
It is beyond the classroom that a student’s character is really developed.
At Bedstone there are so many interests that can be pursued, some of
which will become lifelong passions. These include horse riding, the Duke
of Edinburgh Award scheme, drama, mountain biking, football, pottery,
photography, dance, chess, and a popular choir. The College offers a large
and diverse range of activities supported by clubs and societies. These enable
our young people to find those areas where their interests and talents lie,
and to grow their confidence and experience in them.
