School Information

Our values are at the centre of everything we do. Although the words
from our school motto – ‘Virtue, Learning, Manners’ – were written in
1622, they are remarkably timeless. They guide our core purpose in helping
young people discover and develop their talents with both self-assurance
and humility. Our pupils are kind, ambitious, and seek to make a positive
contribution in the present and the future: our role is to help them achieve
their successes – in whatever shape they may come – without any sense
of entitlement. The consequences of a culture of continuous learning are
our excellent record of exam results and onward success of our pupils, but
we are a School that offers much more than such measurable and finite
outcomes: many schools promise to develop the whole person but few can
claim to do so as well as Brentwood.

The School is proud to report that our 2022 International Baccalaureate
Diploma (IBDP) students scored an outstanding 40 points average (the
equivalent of AAAA at A-level) making Brentwood School a top 10 UK
IB School and in the top 10% worldwide.
A strong set of A Level results saw 55.4% of the 433 results (from 142
students) graded A* or A. Five students were awarded places at Cambridge,
over 80% of students are going to their first choice destination and over
two-thirds of our students will be moving on to a ‘top 20’ university.

Since 2019, the School has offered three pathways in the Sixth Form: A
Levels, the IB Diploma, and BTEC Extended Diplomas in Sport and Business.
These three pathways ensure that students can be placed on the courses
to which they are best suited and that will give them the opportunity to
flourish at Brentwood and beyond.

In 2022, seven BTEC Extended Diploma students achieved the equivalent of
AAA* at A Level and no one scored less than AAA-equivalent. Our high achieving BTEC cohort (eight in Business and seven in Sport) are heading to a range of destinations including Durham University, King’s College London and the Universities of Nottingham and Birmingham to study courses as
diverse as Criminology, Digital Media, Culture and Technology, and Health
and Exercise Science, further illustrating the School’s aim to enable all
students to achieve their best possible outcomes.
GCSE results were also among the best ever this year. A fifth of GCSE pupils
received the top Grade 9, five students achieved a full house of Grade 9s and
no fewer than fifty had at least eight Grades 8s or 9s.
We are also a day and boarding school with a difference – our boys and girls
are taught separately until the Sixth Form and this allows us to encourage
freedom of expression and create space for individual identity within the
classroom whilst maintaining and developing social integration beyond
it. All our pupils enjoy access to our modern facilities, set in the heart of
Brentwood yet surrounded by 75 acres of playing fields and gardens.
