School Information
We are wholly committed to working in partnership with families to
providing an environment which nurtures young people to make a
positive difference in the world.
Founded in 1614, and based just 25 minutes from the World Heritage
City of Bath, Downside is one of England’s oldest and most wellrecognised Catholic schools. We provide a home-from-home to 360 pupils, where boarders and day pupils share six distinct Houses and are
justifiably proud of our fully international community, with 27 different
nationalities represented.
Our School is set in 500 acres of beautiful English countryside with
extensive sports facilities including an indoor swimming pool, a 24/7
Health Centre, a Performing Arts Centre housing a 430-seat theatre,
Sports Centre, and Recording Studio. All pupils benefit from our boarding
ethos whether they are full boarders – as 72% are – or day pupils, who
are fully integrated into the boarding houses, ensuring friendships,
independence and life skills are very much at the heart of our School. As
a Benedictine school, we welcome pupils and parents of all faiths who
set store by our emphasis on community, integrity and service to others.
