pic1Dulwich College, an academically selective school, is deeply committed to Free Learning (learning beyond the curriculum) as an integral part of its academic and co-curricular excellence. Boys-only from 7 to 18 years, this day and boarding community nurtures curiosity, spiritual and personal development and a sense of social responsibility.

Alleynians are intelligent and enthusiastic; they are also incontrovertibly individualistic and from many different economic, religious and ethnic backgrounds. It is this social mix that makes Dulwich a special place.

The Dulwich spirit is thoroughly modern and absolutely traditional. Situated in 70 acres, yet only 12 minutes by train from central London, Dulwich College enjoys outstanding academic, co-curricular and sporting facilities, including a 2017 RIBA National Award-winning Science and Arts building, The Laboratory.  An ambitious refurbishment of the College’s iconic grade II* listed Barry Buildings and surrounding landscaping is underway ahead of 2019, its 400th anniversary, and beyond.

Dulwich College and Dulwich College Junior School were awarded ‘Excellent’ in every category and ‘Exceptional’ for ‘the quality of pupils’ achievements and learning’ for the senior school – the only category for which this grading can be given – by ISI in their most recent report.

Education is lived, not just learned

Together with academic excellence in public examinations, Free Learning is core to a Dulwich education and integral to a broad and rich scholarship experience. Opportunities to study beyond the curriculum include Symposia day – a day of inspirational speakers and thought-provoking seminars, annual Dulwich Creative Week with off-timetable activities to challenge and provoke creative thinking, and A level Plus, a fascinating choice of new subjects to augment the A level programme.

The Dulwich College Union of Societies of over 60 clubs represent enthusiasm, innovation and diversity. Many are run by the boys for the boys and include Alternative Thinking; Spanish Film; Rocketry; Diplomacy; Knitting; Japanese Animation; and Dismantling.  Music, Drama, Art and Sport are enjoyed by all and at the highest standard. With a fully-equipped theatre, bespoke exhibition space and multiple orchestras and choirs, a life-long love of the Arts is encouraged in every boy alongside the opportunity to enjoy a choice of 25 different sports.

The pioneering wellbeing programme underpins school life. Designed to promote self-knowledge and build emotional intelligence, boys learn about physical and emotional wellbeing. The wellbeing team includes Form Tutors, Heads of Years, Day House Masters, and the Medical Centre staff, offering a far-reaching network of support.
