School Information

Fulneck School is an independent day and boarding school for boys and girls
aged 3-18. We are situated in a traditional English village on the outskirts
of Leeds, just 10 miles from Leeds/Bradford International Airport and
approximately 50 miles from Manchester. Our students benefit from living in
a peaceful, secure campus with easy access to two of the largest cities in the
UK. With 290 pupils Fulneck is large enough to offer a broad and wide range
of facilities, subjects and activities, yet small enough to get to know all pupils
individually and meet their needs. We offer foundation courses (Pre GCSE
and Pre A-level), a 2 year GCSE programme, A-levels and BTECs, as well as
short immersion courses from one week to several terms.
Our ethos of ‘Work hard, be kind’ permeates all that we do in the School,
and the result is successful young people who are happy and secure and who
can excel in all areas of life.

Facilities, specialisms and scholarships
Set in 30 acres of grounds, we are blessed with ample outdoor space for
pupils. For those with a love of sport, our onsite golf course and newly
appointed cricket facilities provide opportunities for pupils at all skill levels.
For those who are academically driven we also offer places on the Fulneck
High Achievers Programme, designed to stretch those students who may be
on a pathway to top universities.
Over half of Sixth Form students take A-levels in Maths or a science,
which have been a strength at Fulneck for a number of years. In 2020
our head of science was awarded by the Royal Astronomical Society for
contributions to teaching.

Learning Support & Dyslexia provision
Fulneck provides teaching programmes and strategies to allow children
access to the curriculum with whatever support they may need. Our
Learning Support Unit has been awarded the highest special needs
accolades by CReSTeD and offers one of the leading specialist dyslexia
units in the North of England.
In addition to our LSU, we have a specialist autism provision, Soteria.
Soteria is our autism unit and its aim is to provide a safe space where
autistic learners can thrive.

Boarding at Fulneck
Boarding at Fulneck School is homely, supportive and fun. Our boarding
community is comprised of full and weekly boarders aged 11-18. Our girls’
house accommodates 36 and the boys’ house accommodates 50. Both
houses have single, twin and triple bedrooms as well as well-equipped
common room areas and kitchens. Weekends are packed with events and
there is always a varied timetable of activities on offer.
We admit students at all entry points, throughout the academic year.
All students will be tested in maths and English prior to entry. If a student’s
English is very weak a foundation year will be recommended, either Pre
GCSE (Year 9) or Pre A-level. Once admitted international students follow
a curriculum appropriate to their level of English.

“Pupils achieve well, in line with the School’ aims of striving for excellence, celebrating achievement
and supporting each individual to realise their full potential” – Independent Inspectorate
