School Information
King’s School Rochester is the second oldest school in the world. With a rich and diverse heritage, our pupils have been educated for over 1,400 years under the watchful gaze of Rochester Cathedral and Rochester Castle.
While a sense of place is bound to have an impact on the development of the children learning here, it is the skills, experiences and opportunities provided to them, both within and outside the
classroom, that will enable them to thrive in an uncertain and fast-changing world.
From Nursery through to Sixth Form, we are proud recipients of an ‘Excellent’ rating from the Independent Schools Inspectorate, a testament to our efforts to deliver an outstanding education.
We tailor our teaching to the individual, with class sizes kept small to enable a personalised experience.
At King’s, we believe in preparing children for the 21st Century through educating the whole child. Our priority, though, is ensuring that happy children perform to their best and the school is an exceptionally happy and friendly place where moral values, self-discipline, emotional intelligence and a Christian spirit underpin our family community.
We believe that building a love of learning and developing independent thinking skills are just as important as achieving the best grades, and so our teachers help each pupil to realise their own potential.
We are a school where all are cared for as individuals and where links between home and the classroom are a real strength. Our values of Work Hard, Play Hard and Look After Each Other are encouraged and practised throughout the school. We empower our pupils to explore their passions with a huge range of co-curricular opportunities, to ignite and nurture their interests, and to provide experiences which will develop confidence in them for life.
King’s School Rochester finds itself situated in the heart of the historic town, nestled amongst cobbled medieval streets under the shadow of the Cathedral. A stone’s throw from the beating heart of London, inhabitants of Rochester enjoy rolling countryside hills in one direction, and beautiful seaside in the other. The town is just over half an hour’s train journey away from St Pancras International and easily accessible from Kent and the southeast.
It is our core belief that our pupils learn just as much outside the classroom as they do inside. We consider participation in clubs and activities an integral part of the King’s experience. From Reception through to Sixth Form, there is an extensive range of co-curricular pursuits from which to choose, taking place during lunchtime, after school and at the weekend. We also offer a range of trips both in the UK and abroad to extend our young people’s horizons.
In addition to our comprehensive sport, music, drama and arts programmes, we offer an impressive range of activities centring around personal development. In the Senior School, there is a scheduled co-curriculum programme every Friday afternoon, which includes the Combined Cadet Force (CCF), the Theatre Production Company, the Charities Committee, volunteering and an Enrichment Programme.
We encourage you to come and visit us – with over a thousand years of heritage and a world of potential ahead, you’ll discover that King’s School Rochester is truly a community which enables individuals to flourish.
