School Information

Leighton Park combines the best academic progress in Berkshire with awardwinning personal development and sector-leading pastoral care. The UK
Government’s latest league tables reveal Leighton Park to be one of
only eight schools in England to have always appeared in the top 100 for
the academic progress of its Sixth Form students. The Independent School
Inspectorate (ISI) awarded Leighton Park a ‘double excellent’ standard in
January 2022, the highest possible attainment for an independent school.

Academic strengths
We provide an inspiring, holistic education for each individual,
distinguished by excellence in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts
and Mathematics (STEAM) and music. This strength in breadth enables a
focus on creative problem-solving and interdisciplinary approaches. We
teach leadership, creative thinking and risk-taking, the skills in short that our
students need to be changemakers.
Students can choose between 27 subjects on our GCSE programme and
have the option of the IB Diploma or A Levels in Sixth Form. The Pre-Sixth
programme offers 15-year-old international students the chance to transition
into the UK education system, taking between 5-7 iGCSE subjects.

Co-curricular
From robotics to cookery, and horse riding to animation, a dizzying 90
hobbies, sports and activities are available. There is also a busy programme
of weekend activities for boarders and many curriculum related trips. The
quiet moments and the calm atmosphere of our beautiful 65-acre park,
help students to be positive and purposeful.

Location and ethos
Just 25 minutes by train from London Paddington, students can take
advantage of London’s cultural activities. The School is a 30 minute taxi ride
from London Heathrow airport.
Students of all faiths and none are welcome at the School. The Quaker
ethos of the School emphasises equality, sustainability, respect, truth,
simplicity, peace and integrity, and is underpinned by a strong sense of
community. The School has a long tradition of welcoming young people from
many different countries and faiths, all of whom quickly feel at home here.
There are currently students from 45 different countries but 80% of students
are British.
Our unique boarding model means students live with their teachers,
with five teachers living in each house. In our newly refurbished co-ed junior
boarding house for Years 7 and 8, and our two single sex senior houses
for boys and girls in Years 9 to Upper Sixth, great emphasis is placed upon
pastoral care. Each student has a personal tutor who they see three times
every day. There is also a health centre with three full time nurses supported
by a House Manager in each house. The provision of high academic standards,
excellent pastoral care and a rich co-curricular programme together with the
focus on mutual respect, create a calm, purposeful and vibrant environment
where young people can live, learn and grow.

Scholarships and Bursaries

Scholarships Every year a number of academic, art, music and sport scholarships may be granted for entry to Year 7, Year 9 and Sixth form. Candidates can apply for any combination of academic, art, music and sport scholarships. Pupils may be awarded more than one scholarship but will only receive the financial benefits of one. The financial benefit will be in the region of 10% of Day Boarder Fees. David Lean Foundation Scholarships are also awarded from time to time to exceptionally talented pupils. Bursaries Leighton Park Trust aims to improve accessibility to those pupils who would otherwise be unable to benefit from its education on financial grounds. Bursaries may be available in cases of financial hardship and are always means tested and subject to annual review. The parents of all pupils offered a bursary will be expected to re-apply every year, and bursaries will be subject to review every year.
