School Information

Loughborough Grammar School was founded in 1495, and is one of the
ten oldest independent boys’ schools in the country. The School educates
some 880 boys, including 76 boarders, from the age of 10-18, and prides
itself on providing a stimulating environment, a wide range of activities and
a family atmosphere. This is a school where academic achievement is at the
centre of everything. Dedicated staff and outstanding resources enable boys
to both fulfil their potential in examinations and to embark on intellectual
adventures beyond the classroom.
The School is situated on a delightful, open campus and is ideally located
in the heart of England, being very accessible by both road and rail, and
within easy reach of Heathrow, Birmingham, Manchester, Stansted and East
Midlands Airports.
Co-curricular activities
At Loughborough, the division between the academic and the co-curricular is
far from absolute. We place considerable emphasis on maximising all boys’
potential, whatever their strengths, and a wide range of music, drama and
sporting activities are available. There is a vast selection of sports offered to
all, and boys from Loughborough are regularly selected for county, regional
and national teams. We run numerous clubs and societies for all ages and
tastes from bridge to karting and ceramics to ‘bugs’.
Scholarships
A number of scholarships, academic and music, are offered to boys entering
the School. These are awarded on academic merit. Dyson Music awards are
available to boys entering the following September.

Boarding
Loughborough Grammar School has a long tradition of boarding. Denton
House and School House are our two welcoming boarding houses which
accommodate a close-knit community of boys within the campus. Each
House is supervised by a resident housemaster and his wife, who lead a
team of staff committed to the wellbeing of the boys in their care. Denton
House and School House are situated in the heart of the campus and have
undergone an extensive modernisation programme to ensure a restful,
spacious and well-equipped environment for boarders.
Loughborough Grammar School also provides the flexibility of either termly
or weekly boarding; with the option of staying on campus during exeat
weekends.
The housemasters arrange a varied programme of non-academic activities
for boarders at evenings and weekends, which includes sports clubs,
mountain biking, ten-pin bowling, going to watch professional football and
rugby events, and regular visits to London.

Curriculum
We offer a very wide and flexible curriculum to help the boys achieve an
all-round education with a commitment to academic excellence as well as
to equip them with a breadth of academic skills and knowledge. In 2023,
74% of A-level grades were achieved at A*, A or B, 47% of grades were
achieved at A or A* and 18% of grades achieved were at A* – well above the
national average. An impressive 28% of boys achieved grades of AAA or higher.
