Mayfield School

Mayfield School is in East Sussex, just 35 miles south of London, within easy reach of both Gatwick and Heathrow airports. Set in a 75 acre campus, in the heart of the historic village of Mayfield, and surrounded by the beautiful Sussex countryside, Mayfield School boasts fantastic facilities, including an on-site Equestrian Centre with stabling for 30 horses and one of the best Ceramics studios in Europe. Our purpose built Sixth Form Centre provides a light and airy space for those studying A levels, whilst a recently refurbished Music Centre includes state of the art acoustics.

Mayfield School is home to over 150 boarders. From the age of 11 pupils live with girls of a similar age, under the supervision of resident House parents, and their House team. Girls start in three and four bed shared rooms, progressing to single study bedrooms in the Sixth Form.

The International English Department at Mayfield offers International English lessons as part of the curriculum for girls who do not speak English as a first language, to enable them to fully integrate academically and socially. At Mayfield, we ensure that girls who do not speak English as their first language are able to access the curriculum and secure the English language qualifications needed to study at a British or American University. The average score achieved by Mayfield girls taking the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) – designed to assess the ability to listen, read, write and speak in English – is 7.5, rating them between ‘good’ and ‘very good’ on average.

Mayfield achieves outstanding academic results, with exceptional teaching staff at the heart of this success. Small class sizes ensure every pupil is able to thrive. Extensive specialist support is available for those aspiring to Oxbridge, whilst our Enrichment Programme stretches pupils beyond the curriculum. The majority of our pupils attend Russel Group Universities, as well as those further afield, including the USA and Europe.

Mayfield offers over 100 extra-curricular activity sessions every week during term time. From astronomy to cookery, drama to yoga, as well as a full programme of sporting opportunities for all abilities and interests including cricket, football and top-class equestrian facilities on campus, girls are challenged and supported to realise their full potential, endowing them with a lifelong love of learning and the opportunity to grow as individuals.
