WWW.PAULBROADRICK.COMMonmouth School for Girls guides day and boarding pupils aged 7-18 through this crucial stage of their educational and emotional development.  Our girls thrive and flourish within a positive, constructive and inspiring single-sex community, set in the outstanding natural beauty of the Wye Valley, Wales. Education is carefully planned to motivate girls; we deliver a broad choice of subjects, with teaching specifically tailored to their learning styles.  Monmouth girls develop a can-do attitude and make the most of the superb facilities on offer for sports, culture and the arts. Through our unique Monmouth Model, they also benefit from the invaluable interaction with Monmouth School for Boys, sharing many trips and expeditions, events and community projects.  Understanding the pressures of adolescence, our focused approach prepares girls for Sixth Form, where they have the confidence to aim high in their specialist academic subjects and to fulfil their particular sporting, musical or artistic ambitions.

WWW.PAULBROADRICK.COMMonmouth Schools Sixth Form brings day and boarding boys and girls together at this final stage of their educational journey with us, recognising their greater maturity and focus. We offer the benefits of single-sex pastoral care within a co-educational academic environment. Teaching Sixth Form students together encourages a wider range of views in lessons. Pupils enjoy a broad range of academic subjects from which to choose. They are encouraged to explore further their academic interests and to make the most of the shared schools’ facilities, while also benefiting from outstanding opportunities for sports, culture and the arts.

Sixth Formers enjoy a vibrant calendar of speakers and societies, joint school musical and dramatic performances, trips and expeditions, social events and shared community projects. Our aim is to pave the way for a smooth transition between school and university. Extensive careers advice and careful guidance through university applications, combined with excellent results, mean that virtually all Monmouth pupils gain places at their first or second choice university.

Results

With the vast majority of pupils getting their first choice university and 65% of offers to Russell Group universities, Monmouth School for Girls recognises the importance of getting the best set of exam results for each girl.

At GCSE level in 2016, 42% of all examinations were graded A* and more than a third of pupils achieved at least seven A*s at MG. All 20 pupils who sat additional maths achieved a distinction and a third of all girls gained 10 A* to A grades. Pupils also performed well in the more challenging IGCSE examinations. 82.6% of biology papers, 82.6% of physics exams, 73.9% of chemistry papers and 78.6% of history assessments were marked at A*/A. One girl was awarded 11 A*s and an A, and five candidates gained 10 A*s.

At A level, 57.3% of grades were A* or A – more than double the national average – and the vast majority of girls gained access to their first choice university. 83.0% of grades were A* to B, and the pass rate was 100%.

Home from home

WWW.PAULBROADRICK.COMThe boarding community is an integral part of life for the Haberdashers’ Monmouth family, with around 320 pupils calling the schools home. Creating a nurturing environment where children feel comfortable, happy and inspired to aim high in everything they do is our main priority.

Dedicated boarding houses for juniors, seniors and sixth formers offer all the advantages of single-sex education, with time and space planned for prep in each house. And there is always a busy programme of joint activities, sports and excursions at the weekends. Our boarders form lifelong friendships, lovely memories and a strong sense of society during their time here.  Around 60% of our boarders are British and we have an exciting cross-section of international boarders from all over the world. Additional support is offered to those for whom English is a second language. All trips to airports are accompanied by a member of staff.
