Student Profile

Student: Rachael Age: 17 Nationality: British Achievements: Head of School, Chairman of School Council, Choir member, charity event organiser Next Step: History/English combined honours degree I am currently in my final year at Saint Felix, studying English, history and maths. I have been here for 6 years and during this time have been able to explore the full range of activities that it has to offer. Saint Felix’s superb drama department has allowed me to participate in all kinds of productions, the most recent being ‘We Will Rock You’, which we were able to perform in the new Silcox Theatre. Within in the sports department, I have been experienced sports such netball, hockey and rounders to the more abstract fencing and rock climbing, which I have thoroughly enjoyed. As a small school, Saint Felix has always encouraged pupils to take up positions of responsibility, and get involved with the younger pupils. Last year I was elected Head Girl in the school as well as helping to set up a school council and organise charity events. I am currently involved in a reading scheme with a younger pupil, helping him to read and this has been a very insightful experience. One of the biggest assets of the school is it supportive environment, particularly within the boarding houses. Flexi-boarding has allowed me to fully explore and utilise the school facilities such as the gym, tennis courts and swimming pool. Each boarding house is furnished with small group and large group working areas; pool tables and television for relaxation; and kitchens, providing a laid back but focused atmosphere. Although I will be sad to leave Saint Felix in a years time the school has prepared me thoroughly for my next step. Saint Felix has opened up many paths for my future, and enabled me to naturally progress towards my future while providing me with experiences I will treasure for ever.   Student: Hannah Anderson Age: 17 Nationality: British Next Step: Manchester University to study English and Drama I have been a pupil at Saint Felix for eight years and have experienced at first hand the amazing changes that the school has gone through. Seeing it transform from a small all girls school to a bustling, lively co-educational environment has been a fantastic experience! As a day pupil I was given the chance to flexi-board whenever the need arose. Not only was this very practical when it came to my participation in numerous school productions and games fixtures, but in my last two years at Saint Felix it has given me the opportunity to live away from home and experience the independence and relationships which will be essential for the transition to university. Being a drama student though my GCSE years into my A levels has been a fulfilling experience for me as, being involved in not only large scale productions in our new theatre but also in smaller examination pieces in our Drama Studio, has enabled me to bond with those around me in a confidence inspiring environment. This also links in with my love of English literature. I have been supported by an excellent English department and a library that has been, and still is in the process of being, refurbished and restocked which have given me the chance to develop my passion and even pass it on to younger students. Not only have I enjoyed Drama and English but my love of Art has increased during my time at Saint Felix.   The wonderful Art and Design department with its floor to ceiling art room with windows looking out over the coast to the sea and the pottery, metal, woodwork and design rooms have become a kind of sanctuary where I have been able to experiment with and nurture my creative skills in the many different areas. On the sports front Saint Felix has afforded me much enjoyment and successes. I have been actively involved in most school teams during my time here and have a just love the rush of adrenaline and confidence that can develop on the sports field. My last year at Saint Felix has really made me appreciate all that the school has given me and enabled me to achieve during my time here. As Deputy Head of School I have had first hand experience of the younger years and see them enjoying the same wonderful opportunities that the school has to offer that I myself have experienced. Sixth Form students are given many responsibilities within the school ranging from helping the younger students with their prep and organising various charity events. These chances not only help build your confidences as a young adult but it also prepares you for the real world so that you can handle the many experiences that will come along. As I draw to the end of my time here and begin the process of applying to university, I can honestly say that it is Saint Felix which has made me who I am today and hopefully when I arrive at the campus of Manchester University (fingers crossed!) I will be able to take a strong Felician step into adult life.
