… when we think back to our shy little girl who arrived at St Francis’ and now look at the confident young woman off to her first-choice university determined to make her mark on the world we know we made the right choice of school. _W0A3732Thank you. Former parent

St. Francis’ College is a day and boarding school for girls aged 3-18 (boarding from 10 years of age).  It is a happy and thriving community providing a modern education based on Christian principles. Students receive individual care promoting their spiritual, moral, intellectual, creative and physical development. We recognise the unique qualities of each student and encourage social responsibility and respect for others.

The school recognises that the world is rapidly changing and we cannot begin to imagine what the future will look like, but it is known that it will demand an understanding of a global context. Young ladies need an education that is ‘future ready’. For this reason, St. Francis’ College is an outward looking community – it is enriched by a multicultural society with students and staff coming from various parts of Europe, Asia and Africa as well as from the local community. This diversity helps the girls understand the interconnectedness of a world which is only expanding with the pace of digital technology and, prepares them for a multi-cultural workplace.  The school has been recently awarded the British Council’s International School Award for its global outlook.

The Boarding House has a strong family atmosphere with around 65 full boarders supported by experienced boarding staff, including academic tutors. Ensuring high-quality provision for these girls is very important.  Boarding is uniquely located on the top floors of the main college building providing easy access to the school facilities outside school hours.  This location enhances the sense of community and connection between the day and boarding provision.

Academic standards are high, with the pupils consistently achieving excellent results.  54% A/A* grades at A-level and 72% A/A* at GCSE in August 2015.  The girls successfully progress from St. Francis’ to study at the UK’s top universities on a wide variety of courses.

Teaching classes remain small, ensuring every girl receives individual attention to fulfil her true potential. Education is not just about academic rigour. Our girls excel in a range of performing arts dance, drama and music, from choirs and orchestras to jazz and rock bands. The art department has a well-deserved reputation across a wide range of artistic opportunities from painting and drawing, sculpture and photography to mixed media within the fine art framework.  We also excel on the sport’s field with the school offering over 200 competitive fixtures a year across a wide range of sports including; netball, hockey, swimming, tennis, athletics.

The College has a wide range of on-site sports and extracurricular facilities, including an indoor swimming pool and a 330-seat purpose-built theatre. New science laboratories and IT suites have recently been installed, together with Smart Boards and projectors in classrooms, to ensure girls and staff are provided with the latest technology to support learning.

The College is located in the Hertfordshire town of Letchworth Garden City, the world’s first garden city. Letchworth is just 30 minutes, by train, north of London, making it ideally situated for weekly boarders living in the capital.
