School Information

Established in 1895, Stonar is a co-educational day and boarding school,
nestled in the stunning Wiltshire countryside. Consistently in the top 5% of
schools for value-added at both GCSE and A Level, Stonar successfully blends a
nurturing approach with high academic standards, meaning our pupils feel free
to be themselves, while flourishing academically, and as individuals.

Get Involved
Stonar has a unique charm and a calm contentedness. With a large, open, rural site
of 80 acres and stunning views of the Wiltshire countryside, pupils enjoy making
the most of being outdoors – be that for sports lessons, lunch time socialising or
the vast range of after school and weekend activities on offer. Stonar pupils are
expected to get involved in all aspects of a rich and varied school life, they are
encouraged to try a multitude of fresh experiences and explore new passions.

Outstanding Equestrian Provision
For riders, Stonar’s offer is remarkable; the immersive experience here produces
both successful equestrian teams and develops complete beginners. The
Equestrian Centre of 62 stables is used exclusively by Stonar pupils and fosters
responsibility, maturity and empathy in those who frequent it. Around 40% of
pupils ride, including over half of the boarding community, but many more nonriders enjoy coming to the stables to visit their favourites ponies at break times.
Pupils may use one of the school’s stable or bring their own horse to school.

A Boarding Family
Set across three houses is a vibrant, multicultural, full boarding community of 130
pupils. There is a relaxed home-from-home environment, where everyone feels
safe and cared for as part of our boarding family. Stonar’s rural setting provides a
tranquil and down-to-earth environment where pupils feel free to be themselves.
A mixed age profile in house develops resilience and a sense of responsibility for
peers, the school and the world around them. Routines and structures ensure that
pupils are aware of the expectations placed upon them to balance their academic
and co-curricular interests, enabling time and opportunity to rest and relax after
busy school days, as well as enjoy a wealth of activities each weekend.

Shape the World
Stonar is part of Globeducate, a group of over 55 schools worldwide, which
affords pupils with multiple opportunities to develop a global outlook and
prepare for working within an international framework in the future. While
80% of Stonar’s pupils are British, the school consistently fosters a global
mindset through the cohort, curriculum and wide array of trips.
Stonar pupils work hard, being afforded a high degree of personalised attention
in a supportive yet challenging educational environment. An extensive range of
GCSE, A Level and Diploma subjects are available with 95% of pupils progressing to
their first choice university in 2022, of which 65% were Russell Group institutions.
The School has a long track record of value-added success, consistently ranked in
the top 5% of schools for value-added at both GCSE and A Level.
