Established in 1900 and set in beautiful English countryside in Somerset just two hours from London, Bruton School for Girls is a day and boarding school for girls aged 2–18, and boys 2–7 years old. Sunny Hill Preparatory School comprises the Nursery School, Pre-Prep and Prep School and welcomes girls aged 2–11 years and boys aged 2–7 years. Boarding is available for girls from the age of 7 years old. Small classes mean that every pupil receives quality individual attention, and the Early Years Foundation Stage has an ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted.

 Why choose Sunny Hill?

‘It’s brilliant. The school has brought out the best in her’

Nursery and Pre-Prep
Here the foundations for high standards in numeracy and literacy are laid in a broad curriculum where there is also plenty of play, creative activity and outdoor learning. We make the most of our rural setting, with Forest School activities embedded into the curriculum. Regular visits and extracurricular activities also play their part in broadening experience and building confidence.

Preparatory
The Preparatory School offers the individual care and attention needed to guide girls aged 7–11 to recognise their potential and to develop their talents through a broad and enriched curriculum. On the same campus as Bruton School for Girls, pupils benefit from excellent facilities including the professionally equipped studio theatre, science laboratories, AstroTurf pitch, dance studio, gymnasium, tennis courts and a solar-panel-heated outdoor swimming pool (swimming is available all year round). The girls are therefore very well prepared for moving to the Senior School when the time comes. We have a unique Nature Reserve in our railway cutting and offer the girls an eco-activities programme building upon Forest School and including the well-established John Muir Trust.

AAGuide_Sunny_Hill_1Pastoral support
At Sunny Hill the friendly family atmosphere quickly puts children at ease. Small form-groups under the guidance of class teachers promote self-esteem and motivation. Our staff know each pupil individually and recognise the contribution made by each child. A sense of pride in personal achievement is encouraged. Old-fashioned values of courtesy and respect are much to the fore in a happy community where each child can grow in confidence. As each school day draws to a close, girls greet their parents or housemistress with beaming smiles and stories of the activities and fun they’ve enjoyed that day at Sunny Hill.

‘It’s lovely and very friendly. She boards for one week a year and she looks forward to it. She loves to get away from home. Boarding is structured in a polite and quiet way. The sporty girls do “sporty stuff” and there are options to do gym and indoor sport’

An ethos based on mutual respect fosters a caring environment with a house full of ‘sisters’. The boarding houses provide a ‘home from home’ atmosphere of warmth and security that is adapted to the age of the girls. Full, weekly or flexi boarding with wrap-around care is provided to suit the needs of your family. Extracurricular outings, clubs and activities include horse riding, ballet, dance and gymnastics among many others. In addition to this, a range of different musical instruments are available and for sporty types activities include, judo, archery, netball, athletics, tennis and hockey.
