School Information

Taunton School International (TSI)
Taunton School International is part of the Taunton School family (see page
166) and provides GCSE and Foundation programmes for up to 85 boys and
girls aged 14-18.

Our one- and two-year GCSE/Pre-IB programmes offer over 23
examinable subjects and are the ideal preparation for 14-16 year old
students wishing to go on to the Sixth Form to study A-levels, IB, BTECs or
the Foundation programme. Students are expected to have intermediate or
higher levels of English (B1+) and take up to 8 GCSEs in one year (6 GCSEs
being the average).

Our Foundation programmes are designed for those students with a keen
interest in the world of business and who are looking for an alternative and
more focused route to university. In the Pre-Foundation Year (16-17 years
old), students take A-level business studies as well as two GCSEs of their
choice. In the second year (International Foundation Year), students study
four modules of business, economics, maths (for business) and English
Academic Purposes (EAP). Successful completion of the IFY guarantees a
place at one of +50 UK and Global Universities.
Taunton School International Middle School (TSIMS)
Located a short distance from the Main School campus, TSIMS provides
the crucial stepping stone into the British education system for younger
international students. TSIMS has up to 60 places available for students
aged between 8-14 years old.

Taunton School International
Our Young Learners (8-11 years old) and GCSE Preparation (12-14
years old) programmes are aimed at students with low to intermediate
levels of English (A1-B1) and the curriculum covers all major subjects,
including English, maths, science, humanities, art, music, ICT, PSHE, PE
and games.

TSIMS provides an outstanding, broad and personalised education to
those international students whose level of English is not yet good enough
to access a mainstream boarding school curriculum.

Accommodation and facilities
Both TSI and TSIMS are fully residential with boys and girls living in
separate houses in comfortable, single or mixed nationality bedrooms.
Our International students enjoy full use of Taunton School’s excellent
facilities, which include a modern theatre, a £4 million Dining Hall, a
music school, chapel, a spacious library, well-equipped art studios, latest
design & technology workshops, astro turf sports pitches, two indoor
swimming pools, fitness suite, sports halls and multi-purpose sports
courts.

We encourage all of our students to fully involve themselves in the
Taunton School community and beyond. There are more than 100
clubs and societies on offer which provide many opportunities for our
International students to integrate with the British students, including
sports teams, orchestras, performing arts, after-school clubs, weekend trips
and through the numerous inter-house competitions which run throughout
the school year.

Summer School
Taunton School has been running its own Junior and Senior Summer
Schools for more than 20 years – please see page 208 for further details.

Student Profile

Natasha, age 15 from Russia studying the one-year GCSE course: ‘I was at Taunton School International Middle School for a year before I came to Taunton School International to do the one year GCSE course and I had such an amazing time there! I met a lot of people from different countries and I think there was a really strong community. At first I learned how to be kind to everyone and try to be really supportive to others, but I also got amazing help in my English and it really helps me now to understand in lessons as well as understanding and talking to other people. For the first time in my life I had a grade A+ in Science, which was like ‘Wow, I did it!’ because for me, Science is quite difficult. I also got an award for netball for the most improved player which I am really proud of as I had never played Netball before. I think TSIMS is the best place to come, because it’s not too big so it’s not overwhelming, you can easily make friends and it really feels like home!’     Hakan, from Turkey studying A-levels (Maths, Computer Studies and Economics) ‘I started studying at Taunton School International before moving on to the Senior School to study A-levels in Computer Science, Economics and Maths. I chose to come to this school after speaking to an agent and then visiting several schools in the UK. I was so impressed with TSI, especially the breadth of subjects and co-curricular activities on offer. When I saw the amazing grounds I knew it was the place for me. I settled in very quickly when I started at TSI and it was great to have many friends join me at Taunton School too. I am always kept busy, there is so much to do. I enjoy basketball and swimming competitively and having use of the swimming pool and gym is great. I hope to stay in the UK when I leave and go to university. I would definitely recommend TSI to my friends back home.’
