Teachers at Bruton School for Girls and Sunny Hill Prep have prepared an excellent online curriculum for its pupils.
Staff have worked tirelessly to ensure the pupils’ education continues to be delivered with as little disruption as possible – teaching from their homes and even improvising with household items to create makeshift teaching tools.
Learning from the short experience of remote teaching before Easter, the timetable for the Summer Term has been adjusted to allow for students and staff to move around more and have less screen time – while still delivering the planned curriculum.
Special programmes have been put in place for girls in Senior 5 and Upper Sixth who would normally be taking exams. Instead, an exciting and stimulating ‘Bridging and Enrichment’ programme will help this group prepare for the next stage of education be it A-levels, university or something different.
Bruton School for Girls is known for its excellent pastoral care and the well-being of pupils remains even more important at this time. Tutors continue to ‘meet’ girls remotely every morning and virtual Assemblies twice a week create a sense of togetherness.
Headmistress Nicky Botterill commented: “BSG is a strong community and support from pupils and parents has been hugely important in making our remote teaching programme work so successfully. We have received so many messages of thanks for the seamless way we were able to transition to online working and acknowledging the importance of keeping routine and structure in place for all our students at this very unsettling time for us all.”
As one parent put it: ”I wanted to say thank you to the staff of BSG who have made learning fun this week. The girls all enjoyed their lessons…despite a different working environment.”
While students will miss some of the usual summer term activities – the PE department has created a set of online challenges to keep everyone active, and a range of Hall competitions will run throughout the term to keep girls connected and challenged.
