School Information

Located in East Sussex, Claremont is a co-educational day and boarding school for
children aged 2 to 18 years. Down to earth and focused on giving students the best
possible preparation for the world, Claremont provides a welcoming environment
where all can thrive. The school is nestled in acres of countryside in an area of
outstanding natural beauty, close to the British seaside, with Gatwick Airport just
one hour away and London train terminals within 75 minutes’ direct train ride.
Claremont offers a broad range of co-curricular clubs including sporting activities
ranging from Claremont Football Academy to cricket, rugby and horse riding.
Academic excellence is a focus and student outcomes outstanding, with over
80% of students consistently able to access their first choice of university. An
award winning Performing Arts programme, an established and successful Football
Academy and a broad and diverse super curriculum and club programme ensures
students are always able to try something new, as well as become masters of the
things they love. Inevitably, a few hidden talents are also discovered along the way!
In 2021, Claremont Boarding was rated OUTSTANDING by Ofsted. A warm,
friendly, ‘home from home’ boarding experience is offered in a school community
comprising approximately 76% British students.
Our boarding provision is deliberately located off-site and great care is taken
to ensure students are fully integrated into school life. Our boarders are safely
transported to and from the boarding house each day on our school coach. At the
end of the school day our boarders, just like all day students, go home – so there
is a clear distinction between academic life and personal life. We have two private
houses, a boys’ senior house, and a juniors and girls’ house. The boys’ boarding
house was refurbished in 2020 and includes an on-site fitness room and individual
en suites. The girls’ boarding house is a 15th-century house in Battle village – wholly
modernised and updated to meet the needs of today’s young women.
Our boarding community is diverse, and we are proud of our 27 different nationalities
across our school. All our non-native speakers are fully immersed in British culture and
have a thorough experience of a quintessential British boarding school.

Co Curricular Activity Programme
Claremont offers a broad range of co-curricular clubs inspired by the 8 main skills
highlighted nationally as important for university. Activities are divided into five
areas and give students the opportunities to master their interests and explore new
talents they may have.
Creative Expression is a particular strength, to include an award winning
Performing Arts programme. Claremont also offers a diverse range of creative
activities including art, music, dance and drama. LAMDA is taught to Gold standard
(university level). Our successful Football Academy was founded in 2016. The
in-house development programme is run by Jim Colston who has over 26 years’
experience in the game and holds a UEFA Advanced Coaching Licence. His UEFA qualified team helps create opportunities for talented players both in the UK and
abroad. The Academy runs alongside the GCSE and A Level courses and does
not impact on those timetables in any way. Academic achievement is always the
number one priority. The Co Curricular programme also incorporates many other
sporting activities which range from cricket to basketball and hockey to horse riding.

Straightforward admission
We accept boarders from 11 years of age. Years 7 and 8 attend our Prep School, and
our Senior provision commences at Year 9. There are no admissions deadlines at
Claremont School or entry examinations. English language ability is carefully assessed
in our admissions interviews. We can accommodate students for one term or longer.
We will also accept students into all year groups, except for Years 11 and 13.

“Being able to prepare young people for Maths degrees at Harvard as effectively as for Fashion
courses in London is something that all our staff are deeply proud of.” – Ed Dickie – Head of Senior School
