School Information

Haileybury is an independent, co-educational boarding school, located
between London and Cambridge, on 500 acres of beautiful Hertfordshire
countryside. Spectacular grounds are home to outstanding facilities,
excellent teaching and superb pastoral care for its community of boarding
and day pupils.

Academic opportunity
The School offers a dedicated Lower School for Years 7 and 8, a wide range
of GCSEs and IGCSEs and the choice of the International Baccalaureate (IB)
Diploma or A levels in the Sixth Form.
As part of a commitment to innovation, the School uses artificial
intelligence (AI) to help understand a pupil’s learning profile. Classrooms are
fitted with Apple technology and Google Suites.
Pupils select personal pathways, such as coding and global civilisations,
based on their individual passions and in the Sixth Form, electives include
criminology, geopolitics and music technology. Haileybury is ranked Top 10
in The Times league table for co-ed independent schools which offer the IB.

Boarding and day
Two-thirds of pupils are boarders with school life centred around 12 boarding
houses and Lower School having their own house. Pupils join at 11+, 13+, 14+,
15+ (Pre-IB) or 16+ entry points. Flexi-boarding is available in Lower School only,
which means families do not have to commit to full boarding at this stage.

Exceptional opportunities
Pupils benefit from professional sports coaching from the likes of former
Wales rugby captain Michael Owen and ex-England international netballer
Dani McFarlane. There is a packed co-curricular programme of more than 130
choices, from core sports to scuba diving, African drumming and beekeeping.
Haileybury is a creative and innovative establishment in terms of the
teaching and curriculum and has partnered with Stanford University and the
University of Oxford, to work as part of the global Stan-X study. Haileybury
is the first school in Europe to participate in this pioneering study of genetics,
contributing to efforts to find cures for diseases such as pancreatic cancer
and diabetes.
Each year, the school recruits one or more recently graduated Princeton
Fellows to join an academic department that aligns with their undergraduate
degree. The Princeton Fellows have a unique global and educational
perspective alongside a rich and varied knowledge-base which encourages
pupils to think about their studies differently. The Fellows also use their subject
specialism to enhance the co-curricular programme, as well as designing and
running unique Academic Extension Programmes for Sixth Form pupils.
Pupils and staff make more than 2,000 individual trips every year. These are
primarily within the UK but also involve eye-opening expeditions to countries
including Uganda, Barbados, Thailand, The Galapagos Islands and India.

Excellent facilities
State-of-the-art Apple classrooms and a brand new SciTech centre
incorporating sciences, a research centre, computer science and design and
technology, provide our pupils with the very best environment and resources.
The campus also has a high-tech music school and performance venues
including the purpose-built Ayckbourn Theatre, which is named after the
notable director and former pupil.
The magnificent dining hall serves a wide range of healthy world cuisine
which caters for all. Food is delicious and locally sourced – the meat and
cheese are delivered from nearby farms. Pupils also enjoy snacks and
refreshments on the go from the café.

Supportive environment
There is an emphasis on pastoral care with round-the-clock support from
housemasters and housemistresses, the chaplain, tutors and Haileybury has
an onsite health centre and wellbeing centre. The School is a home-fromhome, with a warm and friendly feel. Every child is given the confidence to
find their identity on a personal journey of discovery.
