Monmouth students receive Oxbridge offers

Five pupils at Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools have been offered places to study at Oxford and Cambridge universities.

Old Monmothian, Joshua Kershaw, has had an offer to read Veterinary Medicine at St John’s College, Cambridge.  Joshua, who took his A levels at Monmouth School for Boys last summer, is currently in Thailand working in coral conservation.

Bella Thomas, 17, who joined the Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools’ family at Pre-Prep and Nursery, has been offered a place to read Languages (French and German) at Lincoln College, Oxford. She is currently studying German, French and English at A level and is an avid watcher of cultural foreign films.

Lisa Davies, Deputy Head Girl, has an open offer across the colleges to read Engineering at Oxford. Lisa, 17, runs her own business, Xorbit, a car dehumidifier and air freshener in a cup, and was named the UK Junior Engineer of the Year at the Big Bang Fair in 2016. She also holds a prestigious Arkwright Engineering Scholarship to work with the Haberdashers’ Company and is a keen musician, playing the harp and flute.

Freya Billinghurst has received an offer to read Law at St Anne’s College, Oxford. She is a keen skier and snowboarder who enjoys athletics and is an active member of the schools’ Combined Cadet Force (CCF).

Keen rower, Jack Tottem, a Deputy Head Boy at Monmouth School for Boys, has an open offer across the colleges to read History at Oxford. A talented sportsman, Jack was a cox for Great Britain last summer at the Coupe de la Jeunesse in Cork.

Deputy Head Girl (Boarding), Mererid Jones, has an offer to read Music at Newnham College, Cambridge. Mererid is a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Wales, Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools Symphony Orchestra (HMSSO) and Senior strings. She is also a keen sportswoman, who plays netball and lacrosse.
