School Information

Stamford Schools
At Stamford we have been educating students since 1532. From September
2023 we will be merging Stamford School and Stamford High School
to become a fully co-educational senior school, Stamford School. This is
perhaps the biggest change in the 500-year history of the boys’ school
and the 145-year history of the girls’ school. This will be the most exciting,
challenging, yet rewarding time in the Schools’ history, reshaped for a
brighter, more cohesive future. At the heart of what we offer at Stamford
is the opportunity for children to thrive, and to help them become the best
version of themselves. Every student at Stamford, from Nursery through to
Sixth Form, is encouraged to be an independent thinker.
We want our students to be determined, hard-working and eager to
get involved with everything we offer. We enable them to grasp each and
every opportunity, and to be the very best they can be both in and out of
the classroom. Within a sound framework of pastoral care and continuous
development, Stamfordians are filled with the skills and confidence to face
the future as rounded and grounded young adults. At Stamford we give every
student the opportunity to thrive; and while our Schools have a long and
prestigious heritage, everything we do now is focused on preparing young
people to lead happy and fulfilling lives in the 21st Century.

Academic Ambition
Our aim at Stamford is to provide a first-class, modern education, which
prepares Stamfordians for the rapidly changing world, and ensures that
they have the skills, qualifications, and ability to succeed and thrive. It is
our responsibility to ensure Stamfordians are stimulated and challenged,
both in and out of the classroom, and that they develop a lifelong passion
for learning. Our aim is to deliver a broad and balanced curriculum that
focuses on building successful futures for all our students. We will ensure
Stamfordians are challenged to be the best they can be throughout the
course of every day, providing opportunities both to engage in independent
learning and to work with others. Our core objective is that students develop
curiosity, ambition and resilience and are not afraid to be intrepid. Students
thrive in classrooms where the work is intellectually challenging and where
curiosity and wonder is not only promoted but celebrated.

Pastoral Excellence
Having a robust pastoral structure ensures students have a learning
environment where they can be happy, secure, listened to and cared for. As
a school we know that happy, cared-for students are most likely to thrive.
Our pastoral system means that day to day each student has access to a
year group Student Support Manager, a Head of Year as well as their Form
Tutor. Our pastoral team works together to provide a happy and fulfilling
environment for our students, with school counsellors and safeguarding
leads also on hand if required. Our behaviour, health and wellbeing, and
safeguarding teams all work under one Pastoral umbrella to ensure care is
consistent and timely. We aim to build resilience in your children to enable
them to have strong wellbeing.

We also provide a modern PSHE programme that includes parents
to ensure we have a programme that is challenging, informative, and
inspirational. This ensures growth within our students. Our PSHE programme

is embedded into our curriculum time and is seen as an important part of
our day. Part of our PSHE programme includes parent sessions to assist in
developing parent knowledge on topics students are learning about.
At Stamford, we work with parents, tutors, teachers, boarding staff and our
wider school community to give our students the tools they need to cope
with the challenges life can throw at us.

“Stamford strives to offeran outstanding, contemporary education in which students develop
the ability to think for themselves and to interpret the world around them.”

Beyond the Classroom
Co-curricular activities build inclusivity, community, and teamwork. At Stamford,
we believe that our co-curricular offering is an essential part of your child’s
schooling with us. As such, we strive to create as many opportunities as possible for
them to extend their learning and passions beyond the classroom. Our extensive
range of co-curricular activities, from CCF and debating, to photography and
cooking promote a love of learning beyond the academic programme.
There are also opportunities for students to reinforce their curriculum learning
and extend their experience with clubs such as Drama and Dance as well as Music
lessons. These clubs give the students an ability to try new things. Regarded as an
essential part of their schooling, our co-curricular activities help students to develop
important life skills such as leadership, confidence, and teamwork.
There are trips around the world to widen cultural horizons and regular field
trips to bring subjects to life. Our outdoor learning provision is outstanding, with
Bushcraft Club, camping trips, the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme, climbing and
canoeing all on the agenda. Stamfordian’s take part in these activities with gusto
and passion, and in return they build resilience; they push themselves to their limits
and learn from It. At Stamford we believe co-curricular activities develop a positive
mindset to get out and get involved. Everyone can join in and be included, no
matter their ability or interest.

Boarding at Stamford
Our boarding community is relatively small, with seven boarding properties,
which ensures pupils and our boarding houseparent’s feel part of a close-knit
community, and no child is ever overlooked. Our boarding houses are ageappropriate and single-sex to ensure the need for privacy is respected and
the right community atmosphere is created for our students. We offer full,
weekly, flexible and occasional boarding so there is something for everyone
depending on circumstances.
Our Houses are full at the weekends, with students enjoying a social life rich
in after-school clubs, sports, fun-packed trips at weekends and activities tailored
to their age group. Boarders can enjoy after-school clubs, social activities and
weekend trips, and make use of our leisure centre and pool, or take advantage of
support and advice from tutors and Houseparent’s during homework time.

Stamford
The Georgian town of Stamford in Lincolnshire, voted by the Sunday Times as ‘The
Best Place to Live in Britain’, is a wonderful place to live and grow up in. Stamford
is located in the East Midlands of England, just off the A1 (the main road north
from London to York and Edinburgh). It is well connected by rail with direct train
services to Cambridge, Stansted airport, Leicester, and Birmingham. The city of
Peterborough, which offers a 45-minute rail service to London Kings Cross, is just 12
minutes away by train or 20 minutes by car.
Stamford is a very inclusive school, where all students are provided with excellent
education and support. We believe in respecting others and celebrating differenceand we do everything we can to help our students find the right path in life.

Scholarships and Bursaries

The Schools offer a range of scholarships for pupils entering into years 7, 9 and 12 (Sixth Form). Scholarships are less common for pupils entering into other years but may at times be available. There are scholarships for Academic, Music, Art, Sports and All-Rounder performance. Means-tested bursaries can be applied for by families of pupils who would otherwise not be able to benefit from a Stamford education. Please see our website at www.ses.lincs.sch.uk for full details.
