Malvern St James Girls’ School (MSJ) is a leading independent day and
boarding school for girls aged 3 – 18, situated in the picturesque town of
Malvern, Worcestershire. Here, pupils are inspired to explore who they

Academic Excellence
At MSJ we achieve excellent academic results, driven by inspirational teaching
which focuses on the individual. In 2022, 75% of grades awarded at A Level
were A*-B and 60% of grades awarded at GCSE were 9-7.
We offer a huge breadth of curriculum across Science, Technology,
Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), The Expressive Arts, Humanities, and
Sports, whilst at the same time are able to get to know each pupil individually
to help ensure they progress and achieve to their maximum potential. As an
appointed Trinity Champion Centre for The Arts, our teaching and learning
provision across the disciplines of Art, Music and Drama is superb and is further
supported by many opportunities throughout the academic year to perform.
Our ‘Russell Up’ and Oxbridge university programmes prepare students for
the most competitive UK and international universities and career pathways,
with bespoke mentoring programmes for Medical Sciences and Law. The
majority of Year 13 pupils will take up places at their first-choice university,
with Oxford, Cambridge, UCL, Bristol, Exeter and Durham notably popular.
Over 50% will go on to study a STEM related undergraduate degree and the

Boarding is at the heart of School, offering pupils a real ‘home-awayfrom-home’ in five dedicated houses which care for specific year groups.

Scholarships and Bursaries

Scholarship awards are honorary and are highly valued by universities and future employers. A wealth of enrichment and extension activities are available to all girls at MSJ including: -Lectures, forums and inspirational speakers -Competitions and essay prizes -Somerville Suppers and debates for senior scholars -Leadership positions -University and Oxbridge preparation programme In addition, scholars will be offered a range of bespoke opportunities with considerable value, including: -Mentoring and further extending skills -Coaching -Masterclasses and workshops -Trips and visits -Regular specialist meetings SCHOLARSHIPS AND FOUNDERS' AWARDS BROCHURE For awards commencing in September 2017, Scholarships may carry a fee remission subject to means testing. The final award will be considered alongside any other bursaries and remissions, the combined total of which will not exceed 40% of fees. All Scholarships are awarded for as long as the student remains at the School, provided that her progress and conduct are excellent. Malvern St James Scholars are expected to:

Applicants should have considerable potential; ideally, they will already be achieving the best possible marks in their respective fields, whether academic or practical. In addition, applicants should be outstanding role models for other girls. For Academic Scholarships, as part of the application procedure, girls are required to take a written paper in two of the subjects intended for study at Advanced Level and a General Assessment Paper. Girls whose first language is not English are also required to take an English as an Additional Language (EAL) paper. Entrance Examinations can be taken from the October prior to the year of entry to the School. Year 7 Scholarships Year 7 Scholarships are awarded for excellence in the following specialist areas: Academic, Art, Music and Sports. Year 9 Year 9 Scholarships are awarded for excellence in the following specialist areas: Academic, Art, Drama, Music, Riding, Sports and Technology. Sixth Form Sixth Form Scholarships are awarded for excellence in the following specialist areas: Academic, Art, Drama, Music, Riding, Sports and Technology. Girls will study at least three A Levels during their time in the Sixth Form alongside a fourth AS subject and / or an EPQ or equivalent. There is the opportunity for very able girls to study four A Level.
